Senator Cornyn to Receive SEARCH’s 2018 Justice Policy Leadership Award

New title
Sen. John Cornyn

United States Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) will receive SEARCH’s Justice Policy Leadership Award for 2018, in recognition of his outstanding leadership in promoting public safety and justice information sharing.

SEARCH is honoring Senator Cornyn for his tireless efforts to improve the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), enhance justice information sharing capabilities, and advance criminal justice reform. NICS is the system used by Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) to instantly determine whether a prospective buyer is eligible to buy firearms.

Senator Cornyn was selected for this award by the SEARCH Board of Directors. It formally recognizes the efforts and achievements of a member of Congress, or an elected or appointed leader in federal or state government, who has exercised exemplary and outstanding leadership in promoting the effective and appropriate development of public safety or justice information law and policy with national implications. Past recipients are Ms. Laurie Robinson, Assistant Attorney General (former), Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice (2012); and U.S. Representative Frank Wolf (R-VA) (2011).

SEARCH will recognize Senator Cornyn’s work this July, while the SEARCH Membership is in Washington, D.C. for its 2018 Annual Meeting
